David Burnes, PhD

burnes_davidDr. David Burnes is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and Affiliate Scientist at Baycrest Health Sciences. Dr. Burnes’ program of research focuses on understanding and preventing elder mistreatment in both the community and long-term care settings, including the development of basic knowledge, prevention/response interventions, and outcome measurement. Current projects focus on identifying the prevalence and risk factors of elder abuse/neglect in the community, exploring the nature of resident-to-resident aggression in long-term care settings, developing a conceptual practice model for community-based elder mistreatment intervention programs, adapting/implementing goal attainment scaling intervention/measurement procedures into elder protective/supportive services, and developing innovative ways to measure elder abuse outcomes that integrate construct heterogeneity across cases.
